Dr. Godat
was born in Germany
while his father was in the U.S Army. Dr. Godat graduated from Oxford College of Emory University and Emory University with a double major in biology and
chemistry and a minor in psychology. He
received his Doctorate in Dentistry (DDS) from the University of Tennessee Colllege of Dentistry and graduated with highest honors. During dental
school he received the Richard Sullivan Jr. Award for Excellence in Dental
Research and the Sidney Friedman Excellence in Periodontology Award. Dr. Godat
trained for three more years in Periodontics and Dental Implantology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, receiving a
Masters of Science (MS) in Oral Biology and Specialty Certificate in Periodontics and Dental Implants. While in residency, Dr. Godat worked as a general dentist. This experience
gives him a unique perspective and understanding of restorative dentists' needs,
particularly for implant dentistry. Dr. Godat is Board Certified by the
American Board of Periodontology,
which means he has fulfilled the highest standards in his profession. In fact,
he is the only full-time, practicing, board-certified periodontist in the Memphis area. He is also
the co-founder of the Mid-South Interdisciplinary Dento-Facial Study Club
(weblink). This organization helps coordinate treatment between your general
dentist and dental specialist(s) to give you the best treatment possible. Dr.
Godat maintains hospital privileges at Methodist Hospital and Lebonheur Children's Hospital. He also teaches
part time as a Clinical Professor at the University of Tennessee Dental School. Dr. Godat hastraining in dental implants as well as IV sedation and attends 200 hours or
more of continuing education every year. This training keeps him abreast of the
latest advances in technology and allows him to offer the best care
possible. Dr. Godat has lectured
nationally and has published in peer reviewed journals. In 2006, he received the Memphis Dental Society Jack Wells Award for Outstanding Young
Dentist. As a dedicated husband and father of two, Dr. Godat has many
interests outside of periodontics and implants; he enjoys reading, drawing,
computers, skiing, cars, etc. He attends First Evangelical Church and serves on the Mission Board.
Dr. Godat and Craddock have been voted by their dental peers to be Top Dentists/ Periodontists in Memphis and the MidSouth.
