Introduction to Use of Lasers in Dentistry

Periodontal Associates of Memphis is the first periodontal practice in the MidSouth utilizing two different lasers designed specifically for dentistry.

1. The PerioLase MVP-7 Laser is the only FDA approved laser to treat gum disease (weblink to FDA info) with the Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP). This laser allows us to treat gum disease with the least amount of side effects (tissue shrinkage, pain, recession, and root sensitivity). Not only does this laser remove the infected tissue it also allows us to regrow the bone.
   
2. We also utilize the VersaWave Laser to recontour bone and soft tissue. This laser creates less heat and destruction of tissue resulting in less tissue trauma. This means there will be less discomfort and you will heal quicker. If needed sedation can be used to keep you comfortable and relaxed.

Not all lasers are the same!

It is important to note not all lasers have the same effect and treatment result. We have chosen specific lasers to achieve specific results.

Laser Training is Important!

It is equally important to note training in lasers is critical to achieve a good final result. Drs. Craddock and Godat have extensive training in the use of lasers and have completed training at the Institute forLaser Dentistry (IALD).
