Introduction:The Use of Lasers in Dentistry
It is important to note not all lasers have the same effect and treatment result.
Periodontal Associates of Memphis is the first periodontal practice in the MidSouth utilizing three different lasers designed specifically for dentistry and periodontics
Dental Lasers are like Lasiks (Laser Eye Surgery) just for the mouth!
Not All Lasers Are The Same!
It is important to note not all lasers have the same effect and treatment result. We have chosen specific lasers to achieve the best results.
Laser Training Is Important!
It is equally important to note training in lasers is critical to achieve a good final result. Drs. Craddock and Godat have extensive training in the use of lasers and have completed training at the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry (IALD).
Dental Lasers We Use
- The PerioLase MVP-7 Laser is the only FDA approved laser to treat gum disease with the Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP). This laser allows us to treat gum disease with the least amount of side effects (tissue shrinkage, pain, recession, and root sensitivity). Not only does this laser remove the infected tissue it also allows us to regrow the bone.
- We also utilize the VersaWave Laser to recontour bone and soft tissue. This laser creates less heat and destruction of tissue resulting in less tissue trauma. This means there will be less discomfort and you will heal quicker. If needed, sedation can be used to keep you comfortable and relaxed.
- Microlaser is a soft tissue diode laser used to contour and remove excess gum tissue. Like the VersaWave laser it creates less heat and destruction of tissue resulting in less trauma and quicker healing.
